Janis Rockwell
"My paintings are the product of a life-long and extensive development of predominantly my right brain. I spent the first 25 years of my life being schooled in music, theater, ballet and opera and the next 28 years as an artist. Fortunately I married an engineer who has been instrumental in the development of the other half of my brain.
It is obvious I have a strong love for dogs. But I also have a strong desire to laugh and make people laugh. These dog images evolved from standing in front of a blank canvas with nothing to paint but our dog, Lucy, and the need to laugh (which is a direct result of standing in front of a blank canvas). They have since taken over my every-waking moment. I seem to live vicariously through my subjects and they in turn are an expression of my personality. These works have become my solo performance, my melody, and my dance. I hope you, the audience, are entertained."
